The bible story of Joseph and his brothers is one that will make anyone angry. Who would want siblings like this? But when you look at the story, history repeats itself. You might be thinking, I don’t get it? Let me tell you.
Story of Jacob and Esau
It all begins here. Isaac and Rebekah are the parents of Jacob and Esau. When Rebekah was pregnant with the twins, they fought in her belly. These two brothers have been at war since birth. So much treachery and bribery when it comes to these two. Jacob did some shady stuff to his brother and guess what?, he has to reap that stuff.
Jacob, Leah and Rachel
Jacob needed a wife. He saw the beautiful Rachel and immediately stated that woman is for him. He served Laban 7 years for her hand in marriage. As a matter of fact, he felt like the 7 years of service was a breeze.
On his wedding night, Jacob woke up to a surprise. It was Leah and not Rachel. People sometimes wonder, why did Laban do that to him? I have an answer, why did Jacob do that to Esau? Jacob tricked Isaac and Laban tricked Jacob. Reaping and sowing. He served 7 more years and eventually married Rachel.
Jacob’s sons
All of Jacob’s sons, not including Benjamin (he wasn’t born yet) hated Joseph. Because Joseph was Jacob’s favorite due to him being born in his old age. He gave Joseph a coat of many colors.
Favoritism played an important role in Jacob and Esau. Apparently Jacob keeps that tradition going. Not thinking about the consequences.
God started speaking to Joseph in dreams. Dreams of things to come, but Joseph didn’t know that. His first dream was of hay. Joseph’s hay stood tall, while his brother’s hay fell to the ground.
Joseph’s brothers didn’t like his dreams and they started hating him even more.
His second dream was of the sun and stars. The stars (representing his brothers) bowed down to him. His brother’s fury got to dangerous levels and they wanted to do something about it.
Bible Story Joseph
The majority of Joseph’s brothers wanted to kill him, but Rueben said no. Let’s get rid of him without killing him. Let’s pretend he was killed by a wild animal. So they throw him in a pit and sell him. To make their story believable, they took Joseph’s coat of many colors and put blood on it. Of course they had to use their best sad faces as they told Jacob that Joseph died by the hands of a wild animal.
Jacob mourned for Joseph. Jacob’s sons told him a lie. Jacob told a lie to his father Isaac. Hmmm.
Joseph’s brothers thought they got rid of him for good, but little did they know it was meant to happen.
God had a bigger plan for Joseph and it wasn’t a sheepherder.
